SPARK LOGO PROJECT

Spark is a coalition led by Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center and partners across Minnesota, dedicated to empowering communities to prevent substance misuse and support youth mental health. I worked with a team at Metre to develop the logo, colors, and basic branding for social.

Sketches

Common themes provided by the client guided early ideas for the logo: Empowerment, hope, community, etc. My initial ideas focused on literal sparks and rays of light to communicate these values.

Moodboards

The next step the team took was to develop some mood boards for the brand, experimenting with colors and typefaces. The client wanted to appear professional, but also appealing to younger audiences who would benefit from the program.

Social Post Ideas

As the team began to flesh out their logo ideas, we began to play around with the look and feel of the brand via social post examples. Here are a few of mine.

These examples include logo ideas from Ryan Tate and Laura Krug.‍ ‍

Initial Logo Ideas

Per client request, we began to experiment with taglines and fully rendered logo options. We wanted to strike a balance between something approachable yet modern.

Flame-Centric Ideas

After a few rounds of review, the client decided they wanted to pivot to a logo design that was warmer and included some kind of flame imagery. Here are some of the versions I came up with. One of these would end up making it into the final design.

Final Design

After a few rounds of deliberation with the client and a youth vote, the client decided to go with the sharp, flame logomark with an adapted color palette, increasing the saturation of the orange slightly.
